Library of Venoria: Creatures and Plants: Dragons

Dragons

At the beginning of the world conflict was already growing within the cosmos. The creation of Venoria had brought about a new era for the gods of that old time, it was a new canvas on which they could spread their influence and ideas. It was the creation of Venoria that caused the conflict that came to be known as the 'War of the gods.' Two of these old gods, Aiura and Licuia, had already formed bonds with one another and agreed to join forces in the fight for Venoria. While the other gods scoured the world for strong beasts and peoples to help in their fight, Aiura and Licuia focused on a small worm like creature with wings and scales.

The creature was no longer then a humans hand, but the two gods saw the potential of what they could become. So taking the only two in existence, a male and a female, they used their divine powers to grow and shape the creatures until they were larger then any other beast on Venoria. Aiura took the male as his mount and named it 'Fywain,' Licuia took the female and named it 'Servyian.' During this time all the powers of the gods were limited because Venoria had no true masters of it and all the gods were forced to fight each other on the world itself using physical attacks. It was a very chaotic time, one of which rendered many of the still fledgling races extinct. However, with their new incredibly powerful creatures Aiura and Licuia managed to stave off the attacks of the other gods and then to push forth their own attacks until they were victorious.

The two gods consummated their relationship and Licuia gave birth to the goddess Vaiura and the god Faidor. Their mounts, whom they had come to call Dragons, also mated and gave birth to 7 offspring of which all grew to be not like their ancient selves, but into the magically and physically altered parents. Each one also had within them the gift of immortality plus a special connection to the elements of the world of Venoria. Two of the offspring were taken as mounts by Vaiura and Faidor which were given the names of 'Alstyrr' and 'Terzyll.' The other offspring went out over Venoria in even distribution to ensure ample food supply for all.

One would think that with Dragons suddenly being over double their population since the worlds creation that their race would continue to grow, this however is not true. Even though the birth of the seven offspring was celebrated by the old gods but it was also looked upon with concern because each of the offspring were male. After the old gods left the world of Venoria to it's own devices they took their draconian mounts with them leaving the 5 males on Venoria. Because of this, and the fact that the two old gods took and bred the only two dragons on the world at it's creation, there is no possibility of the dragon population increasing. If one were to be killed, or all, their numbers would not be added to ever again.

In general the five remaining dragons are extremely secretive, choosing to bury themselves deep in the earth to protect themselves against elements that would work to destroy them. They are also in fact considered very intelligent and even slightly telepathically linked to each other. They spend their days deep in their dens under the miles of ground above them learning more of the magics of the world as each on has taken on an element of it's aspect. What will become of them, only time will tell.
